This is my favorite place for Thai food in Salt Lake City. The portions are generous and I always have leftovers. The flavors are amazing. Tasty Thai tends to be just what I needed on any day! Take out is very fast and service is always prompt. Don't be put off by location or other reviews until you try it for yourself! Yum.

after 1 visit i dined at tasty thai on the recommendation of two or three yelpers. from what they described, i was excited to try one of the dishes that had a consensus of recommendations. maybe that was my downfall. too high of an expectation. ambience B- family run business that's not much to look at. their kid was roaming around. quite strange, but half way through the meal, a horrible odor permeated the area. i didn't want to say it was the kid, but... service A- server was helpful, and attentive. food came out in good time. food B- veg spring rolls hard to go wrong with spring rolls. they were crispy, hot, and tasty. tamarind chicken ordered this on the recommendation of a couple of yelpers. i wish i could say i liked the dish, however, it had a funky sourness to it, that i didn't like. i didn't feel like it paired nicely with the rice. and the jasmine rice (IF it was jasmine rice) wasn't as aromatic and flavorful as i'm used to. overall: B- i hope to return soon to sample more of their menu, and prove my initial experience wrong.

I really like the no-fuss but fresh-food attitude they have at Tasty Thai. Their meals and full of the freshest ingredients... a rare find these days it seems. My favorite dish is the pad-kra-prow. (I may be spelling that wrong) I don't like 100% of their menu, but the things I like I LOVE. I just wish they had a sampler menu so that I could be more adventurous. Also, give their desserts and their Thai iced tea a try. I usually don't get dessert, but I always do at Tasty Thai. As for the tea, it's addictive! Also, the owner told me that they are working on getting a liquor license, so I'm looking forward to getting some Singha with my meal soon :)

I still love Tasty Thai, and I still love the wonderful owners and friendly staff, but these days I can only visit if I'm going home right after eating there because almost every time after I come out of the restaurant the food smell stays with me. I love Thai food, but I wish the food smell doesn't stick with me after I eat. But! But the food at Tasty Thai is still so tasty!

My sister and Mom introduced me to this quaint little restaurant. The staff is so incredibly nice we consider then friends! The food is always great I recommend the Yum Tempura Salad and the Chicken Satay appetizer - yum. My sister is a vegetarian and she has plenty to choose from. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Upon a recommendation, and the fact this place is 5 minutes from my house, I decided to try out Tasty Thai. The location is great. Just on the south-west corner of Liberty Park. Parking can get a little tight if they are busy but it's not too bad. On to the food. Every so often you get a craving for some good pad thai. I kept it simple and was so excited to try their pad thai with chicken for take out. Now I'm not sure if that's how Tasty Thai normally makes their food or if it was because I ordered take out, but the pad thai was far and beyond "different" from other Thai restaurants in the greater Salt Lake area. The noodles tasted overcooked and there was simply so much sauce that it just took away from the whole dish. Aside from the excess sauciness, there lacked any real spice and flavor. It was bland at best. I was obviously disappointed. This all being said I do plan to return and try other items because my friends who recommended Tasty Thai do truly like their food so that's good enough for me to eventually give them a second go around. If you're on the fence about eating here I still suggest you do, because I'm hoping my experience was a fluke and there is still some good eating to come.

This place is so great! They really care about the community and are always friendly with caring customer service. I just stopped in for a smoothie, decided on the Thai Basil Guava, and oh my! Is it good? Yes!!! I also love their food. They know how to cook up some tofu anything!

I love this place but am very disappointed that the last 3 times I have tried to eat here they have been closed. It was twice on a Friday and once on a Wednesday.

Best stir fries and noodle dishes to offer. I have been going every week for the past month or so. I order the #47 which is stir fried meat of your choice sautéed in chili garlic sauce with peppers. I get mine with tofu, and I add potatoes without fish sauce so it's vegan. They have the nicest servers and workers, they are extremely friendly and welcoming. They don't make me feel pressured to order or treat me like just another customer. On Saturdays they have a clarinet player and at nights they usually have a dim light atmosphere that gives it a romantic feeling.

Just tried Tasty Thai for the first time and now I'm very upset that I hadn't eaten here sooner. Hands down the best Massaman Curry I've had in Salt Lake and I've had close to them all. The spices are incredible. Just had the curry so I can't speak on anything else but this is now my go to spot for Thai in Salt Lake.

This is one of those Thai places that doesn't disappoint. Don't be fooled by the exterior. It's gorgeous inside and the staff is friendly.

Great food! I eat here every week or so and I'm able to call in an order or sit and eat. Friendly staff and quick too!

The host will only kind of make fun of you for ordering Pad Thai takeout all the time. I promise I like other more traditional Thai items - This is where this restaurant's skills take off. One of the best Thai restaurants for non-americanized Thai food. Highly recommend being creative with your ordering even though the pad thai is still delicious and comforting.

A great hole in the wall. I had the pad curry which was surprisingly divine. Great service. My friends both had the yellow curry which was also good.

We drove by so many times and finally went in yesterday. It's more like a hole-in-the-wall place - it's tasty! We tried Fresh Rolls, Som Tum, and #47 (a fried pork dish - I think this dish is more suitable for more than two people to share unless you LOVE deep fried food). We will definitely go back again to try something else.

Great service and there was a good jazz musician of all things playing Saturday night. everything the group got was very good. my wife doesn't normally like Thai and she loved it.

I live right down the road from this eatery and after passing it for the umpteenth time since moving to the neighborhood, I decided to stop by and try some pad siew for dinner. One word: delicious! I got it with pork and I thought the vegetables were good, the meat was good, the noodles and sauce, you guessed it, were good. My friend ordered the thom yum and it was very tasty (although the chunky ingredients in the broth were difficult to dissect into bite-sized morsels). Definitely looking forward to my next visit to try the pad thai and lots more on the menu!

This is now our 'to go' place for Thai food in SLC. Over countless visits we have sampled a good amount of the menu. Personal favorites include the deep fried and spicy tilapa, the spicy fried rice, their larb dishes and curries are great too. Also, anything marked HOT (with two chilli symbols on the menu) generally is. If you really want to feel the heat just ask them to make your dish thai spicy and you won't be disappointed. Pretty much everything we have had has been good to great. Sure now and then there are wobbles in dish consistency, but I feel it's more of the nature of the food being cooked fresh, to order, and by different people, depending on the day of the week. I think that's part of the charm, meals aren't cookie cutter by any means. And for the price you are paying it's quite easy to forgive the odd slip up. The owner/operators couldn't be any friendlier, always eager to check in with diners. You will quite often see your server from a past meal, in the kitchen the next - hence the slight variance in dish preparation mentioned above I think. Tasty Thai recently got a basic liquor license too, so you can now have a cold Sapporo or Tsingtao to wash down your incendiary curry.

Note**: We had a veggie meal, so not sure about meat taste and preparation. If you want hear about meat, stop here. Or read on. My wife and I made our way to Tasty Thai to celebrate her new job. We had heard good things about it. We knew going in that its family owned and low key, so were hoping to celebrate comfortably. Unfortunately, this is not the place to celebrate such an event, this is coming from people who celebrate also by going to taco stands.Over all, service is excellent but food is sub-par. We felt that it lacked the complex aromas and flavors that we have associated with this type of food. We have been to about 9 Thai restaurants, repeatedly here in SLC, so we feel like we have a good idea about Thai food. We had a 1)Thai Iced Coffee 2) Green Curry 3) Egg plant Curry and 4) Mango/Sticky Rice. The coffee was not as rich in flavor as a dark roast can be. It had too much cream. For an excellent coffee, you should actually go to the restaurant Indochine. . The green curry was refreshing. It did not have as much coconut milk as you usually find in other restaurants. It was slightly diluted. So this was a good change. The vegetables felt flimsy in the mouth. Yes, they had been cooked, but they tastes like there were frozen and cooked. The staple of the Thai eggplant curry is and should be the eggplant, right? Well in this dish it was not. The eggplant skin was hard to chew through and flavorless. Eggplants are a difficult plant to cook well. In order to get is full of flavor, it must sit in the curry for a long time. This one was taken out too soon and was not tender. For both dishes, the tofu was rough texture and low on flavor. Similar to the vegetables, the tofu appeared to have been frozen, thawed and then cooked. I know this because I have done this myself and its not very good. The mango/stick rice was my favorite. The mango was perfectly ripe. The rice was sticky, super sticky. I will go back to Tasty Thai, but it will only be for the dessert.

Love the soups!! They all taste so fresh. The service is great too - everyone is always warm an friendly. Probably my favorite Thai food in the valley. Recommended!!!!

Quite affordable and large portions. I like getting carry-out but dining-in isn't that bad either. The restaurant is small so it can get cold with people coming and going picking up carry-out. I'm picky when it comes to currys but I love theirs! Tofu was crunchy and tasty. The drink prices are a little high, so I just get water. The service is fine and friendly.

My wife and I used to be regulars here while we lived at the University of Utah. Their lunch menu is a great value and you get amazing, authentic Thai food. We always had the same server (Monte) and he would tell us what to get: the Pad-kee-mow and the Gang-dang (both with chicken). Haven't had comparable Thai food any where else for the price, taste, and portion size yet.

I found out about this place after hearing about it from Chanon Thai staff a few months, I think the owners are relatives in the same family. They are located at the corner of 5th E and 13th S. After a few visits, I found myself still liking Chanon better. The restaurant is little small and the place seems clean. The tables near window could be bad during sunset hours. During summer, the entire restaurant could feel like a microwave, since I don't think they have A/C setup and relies on ceiling fans for cooling. The service is about mediocre and as good as most Asian restaurants. Curry is always a safe choice when it comes to Thai food, other dishes can end up being bad Chinese food. Notable dishes we were Red Curry, Pad Siew, and Tom Yum soup. There were also Pad Thai and Pad Kra Prow once. As usual, I got every at Thai spicy level unless I dine with kids. The red curry was decent, but not enough flavor behind the spice. The Pad Siew and Pad Thai both seem to lack on veggies, but plentiful meat. The soup was ok. Pad Kraw Prow is just like bad Chinese stir-fried chicken with veggie. I do not think their meat were marinated, since they all tasted pretty bland itself without the sauce. The Tasty Thai is definitely not as tasty as their name claimed to be. The dishes on the menu can be hit-or-missed depending on what you ordered. Food portion was also quite small for the price. There are definitely better alternatives in the area in you are in the mood for Thai food.

I'm surprised there weren't more 5 star ratings! I lived in Thailand for 3 months, and ever since coming home it's been really hard to try to find really good, authentic Thai cuisine. My Thai friend actually suggested this place, and so far it's still my favorite Thai restaurant in Utah. True, it's not perfect, and I had better Thai food in Thailand, but for Salt Lake City, this place was awesome. I would highly recommend it for someone looking for a more authentic dining experience.

I had heard great things about Tasty Thai, and went with a couple vegetarian friends and enjoyed the dumpling appetizer (with pork, so I had them all by myself) and a couple different curry dishes (with tofu that we all shared.) All the food was seasoned well, and I enjoyed them, but like the rating above stated, it was "A-OK". Maybe it was because most of the dishes I had that day were curry based with tofu or maybe it was the small rice portions like a couple reviewers here had mentioned about, I didn't leave satisfied (but not hungry, either.) The service staff was very friendly, and there were other dishes that looked good on the menu, so I'll go back and give it another try and hopefully update this review soon.

I love everything about Thai food except the consistency problems that plague just about every Thai restaurant. I had an unbelievably good meal at Tasty Thai, followed by a very mediocre one. Plus, prices are going up. Increasingly, I'm choosing the make-at-home approach. Thai food is fun to make, the ingredients easy to find, and in your own kitchen you won't suffer the wild flavor-mood swings of a restaurant that might offer galangal gloriousness one week and glorified gravy the next.

By looking at the building, you wouldn't think this place has some of the best food ever. Serious. Their yellow curry is aaahhhhh-mazing! I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy foods so I get the dish mild and I could literally eat it all the time. If you're a fan of sweets, get the honey bananas and ice cream for dessert. It's the perfect end to an awesome meal. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

I have been coming for years. There are only 2 Thai restaurants in Utah I will eat at, and this is one of them. Every dish reminds me of Thailand, and the staff never fail to share endless smiles.

I love tasty thai. It's my go-to thai, and I'm happy it's in my neighborhood. They're always so nice and friendly, even for take out people. They remember their repeat customers. These make a good neighborhood spot. What makes it a 5 rating is that the food is delicious, consistently. Their knockout dish that I don't see as basic thai is under the chef recommends section... the fried tilapia with spicy tamarind sauce. Amazing.

Awesome! Yellow curry was as good as I have had anywhere. Vegi soup was delicious as well. Go get some.

I can say this is my new favorite Thai place in the city. Every dish came out perfectly cooked with incredible flavors. The service was great and they were very friendly and helpful on the menu. I ordered a curry dish called the Gang-Pa which was unbelievable. A curry dish filled with fresh veggies including Thai eggplant which I hadn't ever had before that I loved. It is a spicy dish, but the balance of flavor and heat are perfect. I am looking forward to coming back here and trying other menu items.

I dig it! The service was good and their menu has a ton of vegetarian and vegan options this makes dining out easier for me and my bf. He eats meat dishes but I like to eat more vegetable ones. The soup was amazing and everything was nice and spicy and our waiter kept the water coming. I didn't understand why they had to fire up their big screen while we were eating onto a sports network, a thai place doesn't need that. The prices are a lot less than a lot of local thai places and the food was great, I even had enough to take home for lunch. It's definitely more of a casual restaurant and not really fancy inside, it looks like it used to be a gas station, but that's cool. I dig it, I'd like to go back and try some other dishes.

  • Susan G.

Yummy food, good service and good price! I would definitely go again. Had a tofu/veggie dish -- spicy just like I asked for! Tofu was yum! Veggies tasted fresh and were cooked perfectly. I liked the cafe environment; it was small, but not crowded. It just may be my new favorite Thai place in Salt Lake.

Probably one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to yet in town, though I must say I'm feeling pretty enthusiastic about my upcoming trip to Chanon... Thai Lotus being my former favorite for authenticity. I lived in Bangkok for some time, and I would easily say that Tasty Thai is the most authentic near-downtown spot. Very pleasant atmosphere, family-owned and run business, and a clean one to boot! The curries are not over-sweetened, like many places, yet still manage to exude a magnificent tangy flavor. The same goes for the Tom Yum. Pad Kee Mao has always been saucy and flavorful, rather than dry and stuck together. Tasty Thai is my second favorite Thai spot in the area.

    (4)
  • Richard S.

Here is the deal. I love the owner and his family because they are personable and treat us right everytime we come in. What can I say really nice people get higher ratings. I feel very comfortable when I dine with them. Never met them outside of their business. They are fast, consistent, the food is really good and the price is not much more than than a fast food joint. The location is about 2 minutes from Landis Salon where I work. The ambiance is what I would call a hole in the wall. But, hey, I'm not always looking for the Ritz in dining. This place is real. And, these are the reasons why Tasty Tahi gets four stars. Trust! Just because I have a few high star ratings in my reviews just means that I make good choices not that I am a push over reviewer. One must compare apples to apples. I'm just say'in. Oh and hot is really hot, you will feel the burn all the way .....

Best Thai food I've had so far in SLC. Definitely better than Thai Aroy-D and Thai garden. I had the pad thai with chicken and it was quite good. I think I will order medium next time though.

Ordered the spring rolls. The Pad Khee mao and the red curry. First everything was super fast. Faster than fast food. It was all good and super spicy. It was great.

  • Elizabeth R.

The two stars are only because the food was okay. The service was awful. They moved us from a four-person table to a two-person table in the middle of our meal to accommodate a large party. The waiter walked away while I was trying to order dessert and didn't return for ten minutes. The waiter never brought my husband's beer, yet he charged us for the beer. When my husband pointed out that he was charged for a beer that he never received, the waiter redid the bill only to charge us more than the original amount! I will never go back.

  • Anh V.

The food is decent (4 star on the food) but the service sucks. I'm not sure if the gal I'm talking about is the manager/boss or just a waitress, but boy, does she have an attitude. Be careful when you order dishes that are marked spicy, because they're indeed very hot. Skip the Pad Thai and the Fried Rice. Even Noodles Company makes better Pad Thai, how sad.

We stopped in around 6pm. We were the only ones..bad sign? Yes it was! The only thing I smelled when we walked in was urine. We sat down he brought water, all I kept hearing was someone working in the kitchen coughing. Someone was sick. coughing, that smell, then coughing, I said, lets go. WE LEFT! take warning..... do not go in this place!

Awesome authentic Thai food. Good sized portions for a reasonable price. Family owned business, very friendly wait-staff. Great lunch special, reasonably priced combo meal.

Possibly not too bad if you order to go. While not our favorite Thai place, their curries are okay enough that if we were really hungry, we'd stop in to get some on the way home. Their curries are more watery than other places, a bit on the sweet side and not as spicy. We typically added some fresh veggies and some extra spice when we got the food home. However, every time we tried to eat there, it was a lackluster experience to say the least. The last time we went - and we won't be going back - we were asked "Here or to go?" and responded for here. The waitress audibly sighed and walked to a table. She came back to the table in about three minutes and said "Ready to order?" My partner responded that he needed a little more time. She again sighed, gave him a dirty look and stomped away. Throughout the meal she made it quite obvious that she simply did not want us there (we were the first people 'staying'). We now refer to this restaurant as "Testy Thai' as we pass it to go someplace else.

Decent takeout. We ordered Tom Kha soup, massaman, and panang (forgive me if I've mispelled those!). I was hoping for a bit more spice and flavor, I guess, but it was still quite good. I probably won't be craving it anytime soon, but I would go again.

I looooooove this restaurant! They are quaint, homey and have the best customer service around. I have never been disappointed with the food here. I enjoy them not just because they have good food, but because they have good THAI food. I am picky about my Thai (Tasty Thai and Chanon Thai are the only thai places I frequent), and therefore I don't settle for less than the best. If you want somewhere with authentic, delicious and spicy Thai food, go to Tasty Thai. And give Chanon Thai a try as well. ;)

So when comparing Thai restaurants, I always pick on spice. So if you aren't into spice, make sure and tell this great family run spot. They are fast, smile a ton and give you the spice. Their Tom Kah is phenom and many of their noodles are finger lickin' amazing. Now, when I go to Thai, it's not for the atmosphere. This place is clean and light, but not pretty like Sawadee. But much better food. The service is wonderful, unlike Chanon Thai, who make eye contact with you before they scurry passed you. Parking is tight, but I'm glad this liberty park Thai spot is getting busy. Also, they finally sectioned off a patio area, which was much needed! Go here.... keep them open!

a nice & welcome addition to the liberty park neighborhood. very reasonable prices (especially given the size of the portions) & the food is wonderful. i love the tofu pad see ew & the pad thai has been a solid choice as well. have already been a couple times & already know tasty thai is going to be in regular rotation. good stuff.

I've been to Tasty Thai a few times... I've had menu items that were average for Salt Lake Thai and items that were pretty much just nasty. I wouldn't go out of your way to visit this place. I only really end up here when my (nearby) go-to Thai place is closed oh so randomly..

  • Amber O.

We were very pleased with Tasty Thai. Dining in the restaurant close to closing time on a Sunday night, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of our dinner and the service was awesome! The Massaman Curry was absolutely delicious! And the veggie hot and sour soup with the coconut milk in it was amazing!

Not once, not twice, but three times I have found metal wire in my food. This is just sloppy, and the place should be put out of business by the health department. I have also found hair, and egg shells. Thinking the first time or two that it was just an accident. The accidents keep occurring.

I highly recommend the pad yellow curry with extra vegetables. It's a delicious vegetarian dish and I've never had anything like it at another restaurant. I's not on the lunch menu but you can ask for it.

Awesome food! We live close by and were hesitant to try it out because the building is not much to look at from the outside, but after reading the reviews online we decided to give it a try. We're so glad we did! The food is delicious and prices are reasonable. We found our new favorite Thai spot!

The pad yellow curry is amazing. The prices are very good, at only around ten bucks a dinner and eight bucks a lunch. The servers have heavy accents but are very friendly. Great places for take out too.

I had a mostly good experience here and really would rate them a 3.5 if I could (simply because even though the food was really good, I've had much better elsewhere for a similar price). I ordered one of the red curries. The vegetables were fresh and flavorful... crunchy beans and baby corn, etc. Nothing was over cooked and I like that they actually used Thai eggplant instead of japanese or italian, which I've seen other Thai places do. I asked for it extra spicy and it was (which I give lots of credit, because sometimes places don't actually make things as spicy as I like... it made my nose runny and almost made me cry). But the strange thing is that it did not seem to have any coconut milk in it. It was more like a broth-based curry with the consistency of soup. Maybe this is just a style of curry of which I am not previously aware, but it's the first time I have had a curry without coconut milk. It tasted great, but was not what I expected (which is fine). I deduct 1 star for the atmosphere. It was kind of a dumpy place. Normally I would not mind if the prices were low to match the atmosphere, but the prices were about average. It is not a place I would take a date unless she specifically requested a hole in the wall.

Huge portions, quick turnaround. I can't speak to the service as I ordered takeout, but the food was ready quickly, still hot when I got it home, and pretty tasty. Prices could be better, though.

I eat at this place rather frequently given its proximity to my residence. Generally, it is five stars, but every so often, something happens that makes me question perfection status. I'd give it a 4.5, but I figured I would just round up. The waitstaff is typically very responsive and tend to customers well. The only exception is when the restaurant gets crowded, you can tell that they start to feel the pressure/stress. Really nice Jazz music on Saturdays, not really what you might expect, but it was a nice addition to the ambience. The food is generally very good. I would recommend the honey shrimp, the Neur-Yang, and the Pad Kra-Pow. If you like spicy, their Pad Kee Mow is awesome as well. Again, once or twice, the food quality has been slightly below average which is what makes it closer to a 4.5 Generally, this is a solid choice for Thai. I have been countless times and I love the local feel to it. Definitely in the top 5 Thai for Salt Lake City.

After trying a Thai restaurant that is popular on yelp and not loving it, we sort of forgot about Thai food for awhile. But I was craving it one day this week and looked up restaurants nearby to me, just to see what came up. Situated adjacent to Liberty Park in a somewhat residential neighborhood, we found Tasty Thai! And we were very happy! Parking is deceptive- small lot in front, but go around the corner and you'll find about 12 more spots! I'm a simple lady- give me some Pad Woon Sen and I'm in heaven! Theirs with tofu is excellent! The sauce was just right, the noodles were perfect, the right amount of veggies- the kind of meaI I daydream about later. We had just gotten home from a week of vacation where we were not good! My boyfriend wanted to order something healthy to get back on track, so he picked number 41, I cannot remember what it was called, but it was lots of fresh veggies in a garlic sauce with your choice of protein (he picked chicken). He was very happy with it and actually ate all on his plate!! The only downside was the service. A very friendly girl took our order, but a surly girl was the one who dropped our food and check off as she barely slowed down past our table. A couple came in to eat and stood by the front door as this girl cleared off a table, walked right past them, went back to table, wiped it with a cloth, walked right past them, went back to table with menus and plates, walked right past them, went back to table with waters and then finally sat them. She never even acknowledged them or said, "I'll be right with you". It was awkward to watch. I thought prices were decent, the food was very good and the location is also quite good, so we will be back!
